NYC Shared E-Scooter Pilot celebrates its one year anniversary!

NYC DOT launched the Shared E-Scooter Pilot on August 17th, 2021. We were evaluating the transportation utility of shared e-scooters in New York City and monitoring shared e-scooter operators’ ability to provide a safe, affordable, and well-maintained transportation option for New Yorkers while complying with local requirements and regulations.

As of the anniversary of the program (August 12th, 2022), these stats were collected about the first year: 

  • Total Rides: 950,000+
    • Month With Highest Ridership: July 2022 (167,000+ rides) 
  • Miles Traveled: ~1.02 Million 
    • Average Distance per Trip: 1.07 miles
    • Average Trip Duration: 9 mins, 20 second 
  •  Unique Users: 80,000+ users
    • Trips per Unique User: 11.8 trip
